Gardai have been conducting numerous checkpoint operations across Ireland's roads in recent days as they encourage people to drive safely over the Christmas period.
Members of the force from the Laois/Offaly division were stopping motorists on Thursday morning when one driver caught their attention.
The individual passing through Cappakeel near Emo was found to have no tax for their car.
Gardai said things "got worse" when it was discovered the motorist had been disqualified from driving.
Their car was seized and the road user is facing court in the new year.
A garda spokesperson said: "Laois Roads Policing Unit on patrol this morning stopped this vehicle in Cappakeel being driven without tax.

"It got worse when the driver behind the wheel was discovered to be disqualified from driving.
"Vehicle seized and court appearance arranged for the new year."
Gardai across the country have been busy conducting checkpoints in the run-up to Christmas.
Naas Roads Policing Unit were conducting a multi-agency checkpoint in North Kildare recently when they stopped one motorist.
The individual was found to be an unaccompanied learner driver with no L-plates. They also tested positive for cannabis.
Gardai arrested the driver who will now face further proceedings.
Elsewhere, Santry Roads Policing Unit accompanied by the RSA conducted a multi-agency checkpoint earlier this week.
When they stopped one car, the driver was discovered to be disqualified and a number of issues were found with the vehicle.
The vehicle was impounded.
