Gardai busted several drivers on Saturday for the same offences at one checkpoint in Wicklow.
The local Roads Policing Unit were out in force focusing on drivers that were towing trailers.
During the afternoon inspection, a number of drivers were caught without working brake lights and some without registration plates on trailers they were towing.
In a post on Twitter, officers confirmed: “Yesterday, an operation carried out by Baltinglass RPU and the RSA focused on trailers in Wicklow was carried out.
“A number of vehicles were detected without working brake lights & trailers missing registration plates.
“Please check your lights and trailers before travelling.”
According to Irish law, one of the most serious offences is having incorrect or illegal number plates, or no number plate at all and they can carry penalty points and fines.
Meanwhile, two motorists in North Dublin were arrested for failed drug tests after being pulled over at a checkpoint.
According to gardai, one was a learner permit holder driving unaccompanied, and both remain in police custody.
In another post online, officers wrote: “This morning, DMR Roads Policing carried out Mandatory Intoxicant Testing at a checkpoint in North Dublin
“Two motorists were arrested for failed drug tests including a learner permit holder driving unaccompanied.”
