Garda checkpoints: Officers seize car and arrest driver for string of road traffic offences

Gardai seized a car after it was discovered that the driver had committed several road traffic offences.

The driver was asked to take a roadside drink and drugs tests after being stopped at a checkpoint in Newbridge, Co Kildare.

After testing positive for cannabis and benzodiazepine, the driver was arrested.

Upon further inspection using the Garda Mobility App, gardai found the tax on the vehicle had expired 974 days ago and the car had no valid NCT.

The vehicle was then impounded under Section 41 of the Road Traffic Act with a court date to follow.

Elsewhere, another driver was caught for breaking a number of road safety rules.

The driver was travelling in the southeast of Ireland when gardai pulled the car over.

Gardai found the number plate was “almost completely obscured” by dirt, which prompted officers to investigate further.

The vehicle was found to have no tax or insurance, and the driver did not hold a valid licence.

The car was seized, and the motorist will face further proceedings.
