Garda checkpoints: Officers pull driver for speeding and find multiple offences as car seized

A motorist has had his car seized after being pulled by gardai on Monday evening for driving 137 km/h on the N7.

It was only after police looked into the vehicle owner, that it was found he was in breach of a number of other serious laws here in Ireland.

The garda roads policing unit discovered that the car owner was in fact an unaccompanied learner, with no L-plates displayed on their car.

Their van was also untaxed, and so the officers seized the car and issued a Fixed Penalty Notice.

In a post on the Garda Traffic Twitter, they explained: “Naas Roads Policing Unit detected this motorist travelling at 137kph on the N7.

“They were stopped and it was found that they were an unaccompanied learner with no L-Plates displayed.

“Their van was also untaxed.

“A FCPN was issued & the van was seized.”

To date, gardai have issued a staggering 72,240 fines for speeding across Ireland, and the death toll for 2021 is at 120 - which is a decrease on 2020’s numbers which were at 146 at the same time last year.

The total number of speeding fines recorded in November 2020 was 166, 064.
