Garda checkpoints Ireland: Officers seize vehicle after dangerous roundabout entry

Gardai have seized a vehicle after they observed the car entering a roundabout at a dangerous speed.

Dundalk Roads Policing Unit was on patrol over the weekend when they saw the driver enter the roundabout without any consideration for other road users.

After stopping the car, gardai discovered that the vehicle's insurance, tax, and NCT were expired.

In a statement, a garda spokesperson said: "Dundalk RPU were on patrol over the weekend when they observed the driver of this vehicle enter a roundabout at speed without consideration for other road users.

"Driver stopped & Gardaí discovered that insurance, tax & NCT were expired. Vehicle seized & prosecution to follow."

Gardai were kept busy over the weekend as checkpoints across the country were in operation.

In Kilcullen, Co. Kildare gardai arrested a driver after they were found to be nine times over the legal limit.

After stopping the vehicle, gardai asked the driver to take a roadside breath test which they failed.

Gardai also found the driver had no licence or insurance.

In a statement, a garda spokesperson said: "Kilcullen Gardaí stopped this driver yesterday

-Failed roadside breath test

-Arrested

-Had no licence or insurance and was found to be 9 times over the legal limit."

The driver now faces a disqualification period of three years, a fine of €5,000 and up to six months in prison.

Naas Roads Policing Unity also conducted a speed check, where they identified a car travelling at 143 kmph on the R402 at Ardkill, Carbury.

After stopping the car, the driver failed a drugs test and was tested positive for cannabis.

The driver was arrested for driving under the influence.

Using the Garda Mobility App, it was also found that the car's tax had been expired for 323 days, and the vehicle was impounded.
