Garda checkpoints Ireland: Officers seize staggering 14 cars in one area after big operation

Gardai from the Santry Roads Policing Unit seized 14 cars in Dublin over the weekend.

The cars were seized in the Santry area of the capital due to Road Traffic offences such as no insurance, no tax, no NCT and learner drivers driving unaccompanied.

A garda spokesperson said: "Santry Roads Policing Unit seized 14 cars for Road Traffic Offences of no insurance, tax, NCT and learner drivers unaccompanied yesterday while operating various checkpoints."

Gardai were kept busy over the weekend with dozens of drivers caught for Road Traffic Offences.

Naas, Co. Kildare

Nass Roads Policing Unit stopped a van towing a trailer at a checkpoint on Sunday.

The driver gave false details, which were then discovered using the Mobility App.

The vehicle was found to have no insurance, and the driver failed a roadside drug test for cannabis and was arrested.

The vehicle was seized with a court appearance set for a later date.

Santry, Co. Dublin

An operation targeting bus lane offences on the Swords road saw a total of 50 offences being detected.

DMR Roads Policing conducted the operation, which resulted in three cars being seized within the space of two hours.

Dublin City Centre

DMR Roads Policing Dublin Castle were on patrol as part of Operation Citizen in Dublin City Centre on Saturday night when a motorist with no insurance was stopped.

The driver failed a roadside drug test for cocaine and cannabis.

The car was impounded, with court proceedings to follow.
