Garda checkpoints Ireland: Officers nail driver for four offences at once as jeep seized

A Dublin driver faces prosecution in court after being pulled by officers over the weekend for numerous offences.

Gardaí from Kevin Street stopped the jeep on Saturday night after they witnessed it breaking a red light and quickly found that it was an unaccompanied learner.

Aside from there being no one with a full license present, the driver also had no insurance, no 'L' plates displayed and had amended their tax disc.

Gardaí seized the car, and the culprit will have to appear in front of a Dublin court for prosecution in the coming weeks.

In a post on the Garda Traffic Twitter, it was confirmed that: “Gardaí from Kevin Street stopped this vehicle for breaking a red traffic light in the city centre.

"The driver had no insurance, was a learner permit holder with no L plates displayed and unaccompanied and had amended tax disc.

Meanwhile, the RSA and members of An Garda Siochana are also warning the public to drive safely after six road deaths were reported within 24 hours last week.

Speaking on Friday, Assistant Commissioner, Paula Hilman, Roads Policing and Community Engagement, asked the public to do their part in ensuring Irish roads are safer heading into the colder months.

"Not only has it been a horrific 24 hours on the roads, we are also seeing an increase in road deaths this year compared to the same period last year", she said.

"Road tragedies affect all parts of the country. Every fatal or serious injury collision has a devastating impact on family, friends, and communities.

"As we think of and send our sympathies to the families and friends of those who have been killed on our roads, I would ask every road user to play their part to make our roads safer and to think about their safety, and that of other road users."
