Garda checkpoints Ireland: Officers nab driver after attempted u-turn backfires

Gardai seized a car from a driver after an attempted u-turn while approaching a checkpoint backfired miserably.

Officers attached to the Ballycullane unit in Wexford were out on duty at a checkpoint recently.

While performing a u-turn ahead of a Garda checkpoint techinically doesn't break any law, it is an unusual tactic to take.

Which proved true as officers followed and flagged down the vehicle in the immediate aftermath.

Upon stopping, Gardai found the driver of the vehicle had no insurance and was in breach of the rules of the road.

If you drive without insurance you will get five penalty points and will have to appear in court. The court can issue a fine of up to €5,000, and can send you to prison for up to six months. The court can disqualify you from driving instead of issuing penalty points.

On this occasion, the car was seized from the driver.
