Gardai have issued a warning after a number of drivers at one checkpoint were caught holding a mobile phone while driving.
The incidents happened in Clane, Co Kildare, as officers stopped six different motorists for breaking the rule.
Checkpoints are in place up and down the country as part of Covid-19 prevention measures.
There will be more than 2,500 uniformed gardai on duty each day during the six-week lockdown.
The current Level Five rules state that you can only travel more than 5km from home for an essential purpose.
And in addition to enforcing the Covid-19 restrictions, gardai will of course also be ensuring all the regular rules of the road are followed, as several drivers in Co Kildare found out this weekend.
A garda spokesman wrote on Twitter: "Gardaí in Clane carried out a checkpoint recently targeting the use of mobile phones while driving.
"A total of six motorists were detected holding a mobile phone while driving. FCPNs and penalty points issued to the offending drivers."
