A recent Garda checkpoint saw three vehicles being seized for breaking simple rules of the road.
Six weeks of major Garda checkpoints kicked off over the weekend.
Officers will be out in force across Ireland as part of a Christmas and New Year road safety enforcement operation.
Deputy Commissioner, Ann Marie McMahon, said: “120 people have lost their lives on the roads this year and members of An Garda Siochana have had to deliver this devastating news to their families. We don’t want to have to deliver this news to your family this Christmas.”
And three drivers were caught for simple issues recently.
A Garda spokesperson said: "The Commercial Vehicle Unit conducted a checkpoint recently where they seized three vehicles. Two for having no insurance and one whose driver was an unaccompanied Learner. Proceedings to follow for all."
The winter season has arrived in Ireland and that means that conditions on the road are set to become more treacherous.
Ms McMahon added: "We will also be targeting other lifesaver offences including speeding, not wearing seat belts and mobile phone use by drivers. Members of An Garda Siochana will also focus on unaccompanied driving by learner drivers.”
