Gardai in Dublin have arrested a motorist after they were caught driving under the influence of drugs and at a speed of 138kph in an 80kph zone.
The driver was discovered by the Dublin Castle Roads Policing Unit when they were conducting speed checks on the N4 near Lucan last night.
The authorities detected the car travelling at 138kph in an 80kph zone.
The driver was stopped and asked to take a roadside drug test which they failed.
The Gardai have since arrested the driver and proceedings will follow.
Elsewhere, Naas Roads Policing Unit conducted speed checks in Johnstownbridge recently following numerous complaints that motorists were speeding in the area.
Numerous detections were made, including one driver travelling at 80kph in a 50kph zone.
Fixed Charge Penalty Notices were issued to all the guilty parties.
The Gardai were busy in Kildare as they monitored checkpoints with the RSA, Customs and Excise in Monasterevin and Kilcock too.
During these checks, the Naas Roads Policing Unit arrested two motorists for drug driving and seized 4 vehicles from unaccompanied learner permit holders.
Customs officers also detected two vehicles being driven with green diesel, fines of €2,000 were issued for this crime.
Elsewhere, RSA inspectors observed 19 vehicles and detected major, minor and tachograph offences on HGVs.
Proceedings will follow.
