Garda checkpoints Ireland: Officers catch driver at almost 200km/h in Laois with worn tyres

Gardai in Laois arrested a reckless motorist that was caught driving at 189 km/h on the M7.

The incident occurred yesterday evening and the arrest was made by the Laois Roads Policing Unit.

After being pulled over, police officers ascertained that the driver didn't have a Driving Licence.

To compound matters, this motorist also didn't have any tax, NCT or insurance documentation registered for the vehicle.

In a post online, Gardai said: "The tyres were so badly worn that the wire was visible coming through the rubber."

The driver has since been charged and is due to appear before Portlaoise District Court.

The vehicle was also seized.
