Garda checkpoints Ireland: Motorist caught speeding nabbed again while driving from same traffic stop

A motorist was caught speeding not once but twice at the same garda checkpoint on Tuesday morning.

The driver was spotted travelling at 112kph in an 80kph zone by gardai carrying out traffic stops in Waterford.

They subsequently issued a fine to the road user for driving at 31kph above the speed limit.

However, when the motorist was leaving the checkpoint, they were caught driving at 101kph.

Gardai once again stopped the driver for speeding and issued them another fine.

Gardai said in a post accompanied by an image of the vehicle on Twitter: "Waterford Roads Policing Unit were conducting speed checks when they found this motorist travelling at 112kph in a 80kph zone and were issued a FCPN.

"They then were found speeding again, this time at 101kph as they left the traffic stop. They were stopped and another FCPN was issued."

It comes as gardai continue to conduct traffic stops and checkpoints across the country.

Elsewhere in Waterford, gardai in Tramore carried out a checkpoint in Summerhill on Monday night.

A motorist approached the checkpoint driving erratically and attempted to avoid the checkpoint.

The vehicle was stopped and the driver was found to be intoxicated and disqualified.

They were arrested and charged to appear in court.

In Co Kildare, Naas Roads Policing Unit were conducting a checkpoint in Celbridge recently when they stopped a motorist.

The driver failed a breath test and was found to be three times over the legal limit.

They were subsequently arrested with proceedings to follow.
