Gardai were busy on Ireland's roads in recent days as they conducted multiple checkpoints across the country.
Dozens of motorists were found to have been contravening road safety rules and will face fines after many were caught for the same offence.
The multi-agency operation involved gardai, the Road Safety Authority and the Irish Tyre Industry Association teaming up for ‘Tyre Safety Day’ on Wednesday.
The day, which was marked as part of Irish Road Safety Week, aimed to remind all road users to check their tyres to ensure they are roadworthy.
Gardai identified numerous vehicles which were travelling with defective tyres, while on further inspection, some motorists were found to have broken other rules of the road.
During one stop, Wicklow Roads Policing Unit were conducting a checkpoint near Rathdrum when they stopped an HGV.
A tyre was found to be badly damaged and a Fixed Charge Penalty Notice was issued.
Roscommon gardai were conducting checkpoints when two motorists were found to have defective tyres.
Both drivers were issued €150 Fixed Charge Penalty Notices.
Meanwhile, at a checkpoint in Ronanstown, gardai stopped one vehicle and discovered that the front wheel tyre was bald and had protruding wires.
The vehicle was then seized for having no tax or NCT.
Kilkenny Roads Policing Unit also carried out checkpoints throughout the day with the Road Safety Authority.
A number of fines were issued to motorists with bald tyres, tyres in a dangerous condition and tyres with steel exposed.
In Mountmellick in Co Laois, a motorist is facing protection after they were caught driving with a defective tyre.
