Gardai in Naas have arrested a driver and discovered that the motorist was subsequently driving under the influence of cocaine while having no licence or insurance.

Local police were alerted to the vehicle after it was spotted driving in Naas last night with no lights on.

When stopped, the Gardaí discovered that the motorist had no driving licence, no insurance and failed a roadside drugs test for cocaine.

The driver has since been arrested and the vehicle was impounded.

Proceedings will follow.

Police in Cavan were also kept busy on Saturday evening during a checkpoint that was overseen by the Cavan Roads Policing Unit in Crossdoney.

Two motorists were stopped and it was discovered that both drivers were driving without insurance, while one of the drivers was arrested after failing a roadside drugs test.

The cars were detained under Section 41 Road Traffic Act and both drivers have a date in court

Meanwhile, Cahir Roads Policing Unit conducting a speed checkpoint on the M8 earlier this week detected two vehicles travelling at 190km and 189km at the same time.

Both drivers were arrested for dangerous driving and court proceedings will also follow.

In Donegal, speed checks were recently conducted by Letterkenny Roads Policing Unit and a motorist was detected travelling at a speed of 151KPH in a 100KPH zone.

They were pulled over and issued with a Fixed Charge Penalty Notice.

There was also an incident in Limerick on Saturday night when Unit B Henry Street recently stopped some cars for a routine traffic stop.

Both cars were being driven without insurance or tax.

A check of the Gardai's Mobility App revealed that one driver was also disqualified from driving. This driver was arrested and charged with the offences and will appear at Limerick District Court at a later date.

The second driver was in possession of a weapon and also had a bench warrant for not turning up to court on a previous date and was also arrested and will be brought before Limerick District Court.

Both cars were also seized.
