Garda checkpoints Ireland: Four mistakes drivers made leading officers to catch them red-handed on busy road

Garda checkpoints have had a busy few days after several drivers were nabbed for expired tax, being unaccompanied learners, using phones while driving and speeding.

Naas Roads Policing Unit recently stopped a white van, who was displaying a tax disc that expired in September 2019, out of date for 675 days.

Gardai seized the van and the driver was issued with a Fixed Charge Penalty Notice with proceedings in Dublin.

Meanwhile in Dublin, Kevin Street gardai recently conducted checkpoints in the Dublin 8 area.

Three vehicles were seized after they were found to have no tax since 2019, while another was seized for having no insurance.

All drivers are to face proceedings.

Kevin Street gardai also nabbed a van driver for using his phone while driving.

He was issued three penalty points and a Fixed Charge Penalty Notice for the offence.

Naas Roads Policing Unit issued a Fixed Charge Penalty Notice to a driver who was caught going 26km over the speed limit.

The driver was on the Kilcullen Road when gardai detected them going 76kph in a 50kph zone.
