Garda checkpoints Ireland: Driver found four times over legal limit after mounting footpath to evade test

A motorist was found four times over the drink driving limit after they mounted a footpath to evade a garda checkpoint.

The driver turned away from the checkpoint and attempted to evade gardai from the Naas Road Policing Unit.

They then mounted the footpath before being stopped by officers who performed a roadside breath test.

Gardai shared a picture of the results of the test on social media, revealing that the driver was significantly above the legal limit.

Using the hashtags #SaferRoads and #ArriveAlive, they wrote: "Naas Roads Unit arrested this driver for drunken driving after they turned away from a checkpoint & mounted a foot path to avoid Gardaí.

"The were stopped & were found to be 4 times over the legal limit. Proceedings to follow."
