Garda checkpoints Ireland: Driver caught 'sending pictures to his wife' on motorway as fine issued

A truck driver was hit with a fine after he was caught "sending pictures to his wife" on a busy motorway.

The incident happened on the M1 near Dublin Airport on Friday.

Officers from the Commercial Vehicle Unit said the driver used his phone to "send his wife pictures from a road traffic collision on the M50".

Two separate crashes blocked up to three lanes of the M50 northbound on Friday evening leading to heavy rush-hour traffic.

However gardai were quick to pull the truck driver over after catching them snapping, and a Fixed Charge Penalty Notice was issued.

A spokesman said: "The commercial vehicle unit stopped this truck driving on the M1 after noticing the driver was using a mobile phone.

"He stated that he was sending his wife pictures from a road traffic collision on the M50.

"An FCPN was issued."
