An Irish motorist was caught drink driving on Friday after failing a roadside breath test at a garda checkpoint.
Officers in the Carlow and Kilkenny region were carrying out a number of tests on drivers ahead of the Bank Holiday weekend.
And Gardai issued an urgent plea to motorists to ensure they never drink and drive on Irish roads.
A spokesman said on Saturday: "A number of MIT checkpoints conducted in Kilkenny/Carlow over the past 24 hours. Most passed the roadside breath test but 1 driver was detected over the limit.
"Never drink & drive. Intoxicated driving is a major factor in serious injury & fatal collisions on our roads."
While many people will be enjoying takeaway pints and cans over the June Bank Holiday weekend but many forget about what it means for the next day.

Here are just some examples of how long you should stay away from your car after having a few drinks:
10 pints of lager/stout
So, let's say you're in the city enjoying the sun and you've had 10 pints of a lager/stout such as Guinness, Heineken, Carlsberg which are all around 4.5% abv.
Drinkaware says that you can't legally drive for 20 hours after finishing your final drink.
So if you retreat to the comfort of your own bed at midnight, you can't drive until 8pm the following night.
1 bottle of wine
Wine aficionados need to pay attention here. If you work your way through a bottle of your favourite red, you'll have to stay off the road for the following eight hours after you finish.
10 Vodkas and Coke
You'd have to wait eight hours after your final drink before driving.
12 pints and 6 vodkas with mixers
Not only will your hangover be debilitating, but you'll have to stay off the road for the next 30 hours.
Calculate your own
Obviously, these findings are dependant on the individual's metabolism/weight etc.
