Garda checkpoint: Driver's M50 mistake sees officers find a string of offences on vehicle

Gardai arrested the driver of a vehicle on Friday after they were found to be in breach of serious laws.

Dublin Castle Roads Policing Unit pulled over a car after they observed them attempting to make a dangerous manoeuvre while entering the M50 motorway.

Upon further inspection, gardai found that the driver was disqualified, having committed previous offences.

The driver also had no valid insurance to operate the vehicle.

In a post on Twitter, officers said: "Dublin Castle RPU stopped this vehicle for making a dangerous manoeuvre while entering the M50 yesterday evening.

"Using the #MobilityApp it was established that the driver was disqualified and uninsured.

"The vehicle was detained and court proceedings will follow for the driver."

Elsewhere, in Naas, Kildare gardai seized a vehicle after they found the car had no valid tax.

The operator of the vehicle had not had it taxed for almost two and a half years.

The driver was issued with a fixed charge penalty notice.

A garda spokesperson said: "Roads Policing Unit Naas on patrol in north Kildare yesterday found this vehicle being driven with no tax (vehicle was untaxed for 897 days)

"Vehicle impounded. FCPNs and impound fees issued".

The same unit also observed a motorist driving erratically while out on patrol.

Kildare officers pulled over a vehicle and opted to carry out a roadside drugs test, which the driver failed.

The motorist was found to be positive for cocaine.

The driver now faces a 12 month suspension from driving and will have to hand over their licence and refrain from getting behind the wheel until their disqualification period is up.

A spokesperson said: "Whilst on patrol, Roads Policing Unit Naas detected a motorist driving erratically earlier this week.

"Motorist subsequently failed a roadside drugs test for cocaine and was arrested

"Court appearance to follow. Motorist now faces a 12 month driving disqualification".
