Garda arrested and charged over investigation into coercive control offences

A serving garda has been arrested over an investigation into coercive control offences.

The man, who is in his early 40s, has now been charged in connection with the investigation.

He was detained at Lucan Garda Station on Wednesday and will appear in court on Thursday.

He is expected to appear before the Criminal Courts of Justice in Dublin city centre at around 10.30am.

Gardai confirmed that the officer has been suspended from the force.

A spokesman said: "A male, aged in his early 40s, a serving member of An Garda Síochána, was arrested yesterday Wednesday, 9th June 2021 and detained under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act, 1984 in Lucan Garda Station for the investigation of offences in relation to coercive control.

"The male has now been charged and will appear before the Criminal Courts of Justice (Court 1) this morning, Thursday 10th June 2021 at 10.30am.

"He is currently suspended from An Garda Síochána."
