Gardai have launched an investigation after an “apparent attempted burglary” of an elderly man’s home in Kells, Co. Meath.
The incident occurred on Tuesday, June 28, after an unknown man allegedly pretended to be delivering a parcel to the premises.
After the homeowner answered his door to the “delivery man,” local reports claim that the culprit then followed the victim inside after asking for him to sign for the package.

Gardai confirmed that nothing was stolen and no damage was caused during the incident however, they are continuing their investigation.
Anyone in the Tuberultan/Balrath area who may have seen anyone suspicious on Tuesday is asked to contact Kells Garda Station on 046 9280820.
A spokesperson for An Garda Siochana told the Irish Mirror: “Gardaí are investigating the circumstances around an apparent attempted burglary that occurred at residential premises in the Kells area, Co. Meath on Tuesday 28th June 2022.
“There were no items reported as stolen and no damage caused. No arrests have been made at this time.
“Investigations are ongoing.”

- Do not open the door to anyone before you’ve checked who it is and what they want
- Use your door viewer and chain/limiter
- Check identification, where appropriate
- Do not leave strangers unattended at your doorstep
- Ensure your back door is locked when you answer a call at the front door
- Keep gates to yards closed
