Garda Adrian Donohoe's killer Aaron Brady takes first step to try and get out of jail

Evil Garda killer Aaron Brady will take the first step to try and get out of jail today.

His case is listed before the Court of Appeal and an interim date for a full hearing is expected to be agreed.

The 29-year-old was convicted of the capital murder of Detective Garda Adrian Donohoe last August and sentenced to 40 years imprisonment. He was found guilty by a jury at the Central Criminal Court.

The 41-year-old hero officer was shot in the back of the head at close range during an armed robbery at Lordship Credit Union at Bellurgan, outside Dundalk, Co Louth, on January 25, 2013.

The jury accepted the circumstantial evidence that Brady was the masked killer who opened fire with a single barrel shotgun and also testimony he confessed to witnesses in America that he had shot dead a garda.

Brady is being detained at the maximum security Portlaoise Prison.

A source said told the Irish Mirror: “He is absolutely convinced he will walk free on appeal.

“He is boasting he will be back home in Crossmaglen before Christmas.

“He says he can’t wait to get out to see his wife Danielle and their kid. Brady, like everyone else inside, has not had any visitors since he was jailed because of Covid. He is in regular contact with his father.”

Today’s case will be before President of the Appeal Court Judge George Birmingham.

A court source added: “It will be a question of case management more than anything else and how far are they with his legal submission.” There are currently no delays in the Court of Appeal.

Brady is being represented by Peter Corrigan from Phoenix Law, a firm in Belfast.

Although they lodged an appeal they have so far not formally submitted their legal basis for the appeal to the court.

Gardai are continuing their hunt for the rest of the murder gang. Two suspects are in the North while two others, both brothers, are running their own multi-million dollar business in the Boston area.

Cops in Massachusetts have been liaising with gardai and monitoring both men.

A source said: “We had no problem bringing Brady home to face the music and we will get the other two out there as well.

“No one is going to get away with Adrian’s shocking murder.”
