Garcia joins Muguruza at Hua Hin

World No.19 Caroline Garcia will take part in the Thailand Open, organisers said yesterday.

The French star, who reached her highest ranking at No.4 in September, lost to American Danielle Collins in the third round at the Australian Open.

The 25-year-old has won six WTA titles and reached the French Open quarter-finals in 2017.

"Caroline Garcia has confirmed her participation in the Thailand Open," assistant tournament director Paradorn Srichaphan said.

She will join former world No.1 Garbine Muguruza of Spain in the Jan 28-Feb 3 tournament at True Arena Hua Hin.

Muguruza, who won the titles at the 2016 French Open and 2017 Wimbledon, is scheduled to arrive in Bangkok tomorrow after her exit in the last 16 round at the Australian Open, said Paradorn, a former world No.9 tennis star.

Unfortunately, China's Wang Qiang has been forced to withdraw from the Hua Hin tournament due to injury.

The Chinese suffered an injury during her loss to Anastasija Sevastova in the last 16 round at Melbourne.

The Thai contingent will be led by Luksika Khumkum.

Tickets for the Thailand Open are available at www.ticketmelon.com, www.thaiticketmajor.com and Thai Ticket Major outlets.
