Garbage plant mess Congress legacy: AAP

CHANDIGARH: AAP on Monday alleged the garbage processing plant mess was the legacy of Congress. Senior AAP leader AAP and its election incharge Chandermukhi Sharma, while briefing media on Monday, blamed former MP and Pawan Kumar Bansal and Chandigarh Congress president Subhash Chawla for the situation.

“Bansal, the then MP, took the name of Jaypee company during the general house meeting of the MC in 2004 and asked it to consider setting up the plant. The name came much before the formation of the tender document and allotment through global tendering,” Sharma alleged.

Chawla visited Germany when no waste plant existed: AAP

Sharma said, “Going by the words of the then MP, the land was given to Jaypee at a cheap rate.” Showing documents to the media, Sharma alleged 70% machinery was not set up by the company as per the DPR (Detailed Project Report), accusing Congress of trying to mislead people.

“Chawla along with two other Congress councillors even visited Germany at the expense of the company. They made the visit at a time when there was no such plant there. Moreover, Jaypee had no experience in garbage processing at that time. The pre-operative expense of the company was Rs 61 lakh initially but it rose to Rs 2.81 crore,” Sharma alleged.

Criticising BJP too, Sharma said when the saffron party came to the power, it also did not show any intension to resolve the issue, which is spoiling the health of lakhs of the people of the city living along the dumping ground. “BJP is equally responsible for all this mess,” Sharma said.
