Garang Kuol race won by Hearts as Newcastle United starlet leaves on loan

Garang Kuol has joined Scottish Premiership side Hearts on loan until the end of the season. The Australian sensation, 18, has been courted by a number of sides in recent weeks but will continue his development north of the border on a temporary basis after his Magpies move was made official earlier this month.

Kuol dropped a huge hint he was heading to Edinburgh last week by posting a photo of the city on his Instagram story. Hours later the forward was spotted arriving at Hearts' Oriam training base for a tour of the club's facilities.

Kuol was flanked by his entourage and Newcastle loan chief Shola Ameobi as he entered the premises. The player held talks with other clubs but Hearts has been chosen as the best possible destination.

“He’s a player we’re interested in so he came up for a look around with his agent,” Hearts boss Robbie Neilson said last week. “He’s got a number of clubs that are very interested in him.

"He’s a huge prospect. He’s one we’ve known about for quite a long time because he comes from the same team as Kye Rowles was at. The opportunity came to speak to him so we brought him up and we’ll see where it goes. It’s still at the very early stages. It will depend what other clubs are in for him."

Upon joining Hearts, Kuol will link up with three Australian national side team-mates in the form of Nathaniel Atkinson, Cammy Devlin and Kye Rowles. Kuol could make his debut for the club against St Mirren on Friday evening.

The attacker is destined for a huge future on Tyneside but Eddie Howe wants to take his time with the Newcastle teenager. Kuol has only started a handful of career games despite appearing at the 2022 World Cup for his country.
