Garage owner did the sweetest thing for sleep deprived mum of teething twins

Every parent knows the pain of sleepless nights - none more so than those with multiples.

That's why one mum is praising the kindness of a garage owner who came to her rescue.

Tired after being up all night with teething nine-month-old twins Annie and Orlaith, the last thing mum Siobhan Chesher needed was to take her car in for its MoT.

But when she called to ask if she could take her car in later in the day, she wasn't expecting the gesture that followed.

Neville Mottershead, owner of Roadside Garage in Heaton Moor, offered to pick her car up for her.

Not only he did walk to her house to collect it, but he delivered it back later in the day.

Praising the mechanic on the Moor Mums Facebook page, Siobhan, also mum to two-year-old Alice, said: "I want to give credit where it’s due to a fantastic local business which went above and beyond for me today.

"My car was booked in for an MOT at Roadside Garage in Heaton Moor today but, having been up in the night with teething twin babies, I rang this morning to ask if I could drop it round later in the day.

"Neville very kindly offered to pick up my car, which he did, and then dropped it off when the MOT was complete (I wasn’t expecting this!). Such a kind gesture for a tired mum. Much appreciated!!"

And it turned out she wasn't the only one to have such good customer service from the garage.

Another mum commented: "Roadside are brilliant. I've been with them for years. They kept my old car on the road long after anyone else would have given up on it. Always go the extra mile."

And mum Rachel Medlicott said she'd also been helped out by the team.

She said: "Completely agree - when my car wouldn’t start as the battery was dead and I was home alone with two under three, Neville sent round one his mechanics who came to my house and jump started it for me and didn’t even want payment. Such a relief to get it sorted so quickly."

Siobhan, 35, who is married to husband Oliver, 42, said she'd written the post as a thank you to the garage, which has been there since 1986 and has a team of three mechanics.

Speaking to the M.E.N's Manchester Family, she said: "I was so grateful to Neville and his team for helping me out that day.

"With three small children day-to-day life can be a bit of a juggle. Roadside Garage is an amazing asset to the local Heaton Moor community."

She added: "I was surprised by the sheer volume of responses to the post but not at all surprised that Roadside Garage has so many fans, as it is clear that this wasn’t the first good deed they’ve done.

"Also, when I rang up to pay, Neville’s wife told me they’d just had their first grandchild so they empathise with my situation. It’s so lovely to experience a business that goes above and beyond for its community."

Neville, 55, was too busy working when the M.E.N called the garage, but wife Libby said: "He's renown for going out of his way to help people. It's just part of his work ethic and we like to serve the Heatons community.

"Our grandaughter Georgia is 12 weeks old and she's good as gold but we know how busy life can be for parents.

"It really is heartwarming to get such lovely feedback from customers. That's a thank you in itself.

"Neville was poorly last year after being diagnosed with cancer but now he's over his treatment and has rung the bell at hospital so he's back to doing what he does best. I'm very proud of him."

Most importantly, did Siobhan's car pass its MoT?

"Yes it passed," she said, "so that really was the icing on the cake."
