Gap announces plans to close 19 stores across England, Wales and Scotland

Fashion retailer Gap has confirmed it will close 19 of its stores in the UK.

The closures will happen once shop leases are up at the end of July.

Some of the American brand's other stores are still under review, Birmingham Live reports.

Gap's director of communications Sarah Larner said: "I can confirm that we are proposing to close 19 Gap stores in the United Kingdom and the Republic of Ireland that have leases ending at the end of July 2021.

"These leases are not being extended due to the strategic review that we have underway."

It comes after a strategic review launched last year.

However, the store locations have not yet been revealed.

According to reports, a further 50 standalone and outlet stores across the UK and Ireland are still under review.

The stores will continue to operate until a decision has been made.

In December, Gap confirmed it will close one of its two stores on Oxford Street in central London.
