Gannett swallows two Tribune titles

Gannett, the largest US newspaper publisher, has agreed to buy two Connecticut titles from the troubled Tribune company. It is paying more than $65m (£33m) for the Greenwich Time and Stamford Advocate, which have a combined circulation of 39,623. Tribune is considering offers for its remaining nine newspapers - including the Los Angeles Times - 25 broadcast properties and other assets. It has said it will decide by the end of the month.
