Gangs of youths travelled from Edinburgh to East Lothian for booze parties

Gangs of youths from Edinburgh had to be bussed back to the city after invading parts of East Lothian for wild drink and drugs parties, police have said.

Officers were forced to respond after “large numbers of youths” were spotted getting rowdy in Musselburgh, Prestonpans and Cockenzie.

The youths in Musselburgh had come on a day-trip to the seaside from Midlothian and Edinburgh, and police were quick to send the rule-breakers packing.

Officers confiscated booze and drugs from partygoers before putting them on buses back where they came from.

East Lothian Police said in a statement: “On Friday and Saturday evening, the East Lothian Community Action Team, response and community officers, were called to Fisherrow Harbour, Musselburgh, Cockenzie Harbour and also Cuthill Park, Prestonpans, in relation to large numbers of youths congregating, drinking alcohol and being involved in antisocial behaviour.

“Officers responded to the calls where a number of youths were dispersed and alcohol was confiscated from them."

“The vast majority of youths in the Musselburgh area had travelled from Midlothian and Edinburgh and were escorted by police to buses to travel back to their own areas. Numerous youths have been referred to the East Lothian Council Antisocial Behaviour Team.

“Three males were searched under the Misuse of Drugs Act 1971 and were found in possession of controlled substances.

“They were charged accordingly by officers.”
