Gangland gun victim admits axe charge after shoot out which killed dog

A gangland shooting victim has avoided jail after he admitted carrying an axe following his attempted execution.

Marc McDermott was shot in the back and backside after being confronted by three masked men in Cumbernauld in January last year.

An innocent dog walker, 52, was hurt in the incident and her pet dog was killed.

McDermott, 29, of Cumbernauld, admitted carrying an axe without reasonable excuse in Kilsyth in August last year.

He also admitted breaching a bail curfew because he believed his home was being “targeted”.

McDermott was put under supervision for 12 months. He must also complete 72 hours of unpaid community work.
