Gang which used cattle prods to protect brothels empire jailed for 39 years

A gang which raked in £1 million a year exploiting women in brothels across London has been jailed for a total of 39 years.

Ringleader Renato Dimitrov Sacchi, 43, his wife Flavia Xavier-Sacchi, 23, and brother Raul Sacchi, 49, ran a sophisticated network selling cocaine and controlling prostitutes.

They spent the proceeds on holidays, cars and jewellery, Harrow crown court heard.

Security guards armed with Tasers, pepper spray, cattle prods and baseball bats protected brothels in Kensington High Street, Cricklewood, Queen’s Park, Kingsbury and Hanger Lane.

One victim, forced to work at a brothel for two months, was told her family in Brazil would be killed if she tried to escape.

In April 2017, despite her movements being monitored on CCTV, she fled and sought help from police.

Scotland Yard’s Central Specialist Crime Command carried out raids between May 2018 and February this year. At Renato and Flavia Sacchi’s Hendon home, they found £50,000, two Tasers and a CS gas canister.

Analysis of seized mobiles uncovered encrypted messaging. Raul Sacchi wrote in one group chat: “There is no such thing as tired girls. They’re there to work.”

Last Thursday, Raul Sacchi, of Soho, was jailed for nine years and six months after being convicted of conspiracy to control prostitution for gain, controlling prostitution, and the supply of Class A drugs.

Renato Sacchi was given eight years and 11 months and Flavia eight years and seven months for similar prostitution and drugs offences.

For their parts as brothel maids and security guards, Maria Jose Carvalho, 43, of Kingsbury, and Henim Almeida, 25, of no fixed address, were each sentenced to three years; Antonio Teca Miranda, 34, of Edmonton, was given two years and six months and Anna Paula De Almeida Prudente, 21, of Kingsbury, a 14-month sentence.

Tony Simao, 42, of Peckham, will be sentenced at a later date.

Keagan Boyd, 34, was jailed for two years and two months for the supply of Class A drugs and possessing a Taser. A tenth defendant fled the UK while on bail.
