HYDERABAD: Saifabad police busted a gang, which was targeting migrant workers and robbing them. Seven gang members, including a private travels agency owner, were arrested and two autorickshaws along with five cellphones were recovered.
Police analysed the CCTV footage and arrested owner of Salam Namaste Travels Mohammed Haji Pasha, manager of travels agency Mohammed Sohail, office boy Syed Nadeem and four auto drivers — Mohammed Moin, Sohail Khan, Shaik Jafar and Shaik Moshin.
On January 30, Mundar Kol (34), a native of Madhya Pradesh, lodged a complaint with Saifabad police. On January 28 evening, he along with other migrant workers — Rajesh Kol, Rahender Kol, Lalgi Kol, Allaha Kol, Jageshwar, Sunil Kewal, Lal Bahadur and Suresh Kol — boarded a private travels bus at Singrauli in MP. Mundar and the others, who work in a private engineering firm in Telangana, were on their way to Karimnagar.
At 12.10am on January 30, they got down from the bus near Ambedkar statue, Tank Bund, thinking they were close to MGBS. Two auto drivers approached them. “The auto drivers took them to Salaam Namasthe Travels office in Domalguda promising they can get bus tickets to Karimnagar. There, the auto drivers along with five others assaulted them. They snatched 5,000 and their phones,” joint commissioner, special branch, P Viswa Prasad said. Later, gang members dropped them near Attapur. Mundar lodged a complaint with police.
