Cash machine gang targets Bury Co-op store in early morning raid

An investigation has been launched after a gang raided a Co-op supermarket and stole money from a cash machine.

According to police, a group of three men broke into the store on Mile Lane, Bury, in the early hours of this morning (Monday February 15).

The shop was closed at the time but the men are said to have forced their way inside.

Money was then taken from a cash machine.

Images from the scene show significant damage to shutters outside the Co-op store.

No arrests have been made and enquiries are ongoing.

A spokesperson for Greater Manchester Police (GMP) said: "At around 5.20am this morning police were called to reports of a burglary at a store on Mile Lane, Bury.

"Enquiries have established that three men forced entry to the store, which was closed at the time, before making off with an amount of cash which they had taken from an ATM machine located inside the store.

"No arrests have been made and an investigation is underway."

The shop has been closed today (February 15) while repair work has been carried out.

A Co-op spokesman said: "We can confirm that an incident took place in the early hours of this morning (Monday, February 15) at the Mile Lane store in Bury.

"The store is currently closed for repairs and will re-open tomorrow (February 16) to serve the community.

"We would appeal for anyone with any information to come forward to Police, who are investigating."
