Gang offering ‘jobs’ against security deposits busted, two held in Delhi

NEW DELHI: Delhi Police on Thursday said it had busted a fake call centre at Netaji Subhash Place and arrested two people for duping people on the pretext of providing jobs. The accused have been identified as Rahul Sharma (31) and Seema (28). Deputy commissioner of police (northwest) Usha Rangnani said the complainant alleged that she applied for a job as a makeup trainer on shine.com in October 2021.

“Thereafter, she received a call from an unknown number and the caller introduced himself as Kabir from Cozens Group of Services in Netaji Subhash Place,” she said. He took a telephonic interview and asked her to transfer Rs 20,000 as processing fee. “In January, this year, the complainant received another call from a woman named Taruna. She told the victim that she had been appointed at Geetanjali Salon in Greater Kailash and had to pay Rs 50,000 as security deposit, which would be refunded after joining,” the officer said.

The complainant paid the amount and visited the salon the next day only to find that no such job was there. A case was registered. "Cheated amount was transferred to the bank account of Rahul Sharma," the officer said. Police arrested Rahul from Karawal Nagar.

Police said he along with his associates collected data of job seekers from websites like shine.com, quikr.com, etc. Thereafter, they would contact the applicants and demand money as registration fees.
