Gang of yobs attack man and woman with trolley handles in assault behind County Durham nightclub

A man and woman were attacked behind a nightclub in County Durham by a gang of youths armed with trolley handles.

The assault took place in Peterlee on Thursday at around 8.45pm in the Dene, to the rear of Vibe nightclub in the town centre.

It is thought the group of youths used shopping trolley handles to attack the man and woman.

Shortly before the attack, CCTV captured the yobs dismantling shopping trolleys and police believe this is what was used during the incident.

Following the assault, both victims went to hospital to have their injuries treated.

Peterlee Police are now appealing for help from the public and are asking anyone with information to get in contact with them.

A spokesperson for the force said: "A group of youths are believed to have used shopping trolley handles to attack the pair, and were caught on CCTV dismantling shopping trolleys shortly before the attack took place.

"Both victims attended hospital to have their injuries treated.

"Officers investigating the assault are appealing for anybody who witnessed the assault, or who witnessed the youths dismantling the shopping trolleys, to contact Durham Police on 101, quoting incident number 374 of October 29."
