Gang of unemployed youth arrested for stealing bikes

The Banashankari police on Monday arrested a gang of seven unemployed graduates from Andhra Pradesh and recovered 30 bikes worth ₹68 lakh from them.

The accused have been identified as Vijay Bandi, 25, Hemanth, 27, Gunashekhar Reddy, 30, Bhanumurhy, 25, Purushotham Naidu, 30, Karthik Kumar, 27 and Kiran Kumar, 22 are engineering, MBA degree and diploma holders from reputed colleges in Andhra Pradesh, who started stealing bikes to make quick money.

The accused scoured the internet on how to steal bikes without using the ignition key and would come to city, move around to identify bikes parked in front of houses, and steal them by breaking the hand lock and starting the bike without the keys, the police said.

The accused would ride the stolen bikes to their hometowns and sell them at throwaway prices without documents.

Based on a complaint filed by Rakesh, a resident of Tyajarajanagar on March 26, the Banashankari police analysed the CCTV camera footages and tracked down the accused to their hometowns.

The police recovered the bikes stolen from in and around the city and remanded them to judicial custody and further investigations are on.
