Gang of thugs leave man, 52, seriously injured after unprovoked street ambush

A man was left with a serious head injury after he was set upon by a gang of thugs in an unprovoked street attack.

Police today issued CCTV stills of two men they wish to speak to after the 52-year-old victim was ambushed by the gang of four as he and a friend were walking in Birkenhead .

Detectives say the violent scenes which happened around 12am on Monday, October 7 were unprovoked.

Confirming the attack a Merseyside Police spokesman said "A 52-year-old man, sustained a serious head injury and was taken to hospital for treatment".

Detectives believe the men pictured on close circuit television "could have information that will assist" their probe.

Detective Inspector Paul Parry said: “I would encourage anyone who recognises the men pictured, or who has any information on the assault, to please get in touch.

“The victim was walking with a friend on Old Chester Road when the pair were approached by four men. He was then hit causing a serious injury, from which he is still recovering.

“Our enquiries into who is responsible are ongoing, and anyone with information, CCTV or dashcam footage, is urged to contact us.”
