Gang of thugs assault boy and steal his phone in mugging attack on Scots street

A manhunt has been launched for a gang of thugs who mugged a teenager during an attack on a Scots road.

Police have launched a probe after the terrifying incident happened on Paisley High Street, near the Cenotaph, between 8.30 and 8.40pm on Sunday, June 6.

The 14-year-old boy was approached by three young males, who then assaulted him and stole his mobile.

One of the thugs ran off on foot and the other two were on bikes and cycled off.

Thankfully the youngster did not require medical treatment but police are appealing for information.

The incident after aftermath were filmed, with officers keen to track down those who can send them the 'vital' clip.

The suspects are described as white, one is aged around 18 and the others are aged around 16.

One yob was wearing a black hat, black and white tracksuit top and red joggers.

Another was wearing a grey hooded jumper, black joggers and black trainers.

The third was wearing a black and white hooded top, black joggers and black trainers.

Officers say enquiries carried out so far have established several people were in the area at the time, some of whom were filming the incident on their phones.

Cops are also reviewing CCTV image for any additional information on the incident and the suspects.

Detective Constable Stuart Crawford said: "We know there were people who saw and heard what happened to the young boy.

"We are also aware that the incident and aftermath was filmed. This footage is vital to our enquiries and I would appeal to those who have mobile phone footage to please pass it on to us.

"Those images will greatly assist our enquiries and help us identify those responsible for the attack on a 14-year-old boy."

Anyone with information is asked to call Police Scotland via 101, quoting incident number 0056 of June 6.

Alternatively, call Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111 where information can be given anonymously.
