Gang of children in court after woman's jaw broken in attack

Four children have appeared in court in connection with a group attack on three young women at a retail park.

Two girls aged 13 and 12 and two boys aged 14, all from Runcorn, faced charges at Cheshire Youth Court in Warrington on Thursday following an incident at the entry to Trident Park in Runcorn at around 9.50pm on Saturday, May 14. They cannot be named due to legal reasons.

Girl One, 13, is charged with inflicting Section 18 wounding with intent and Section 20 grievous bodily harm (GBH) without intent against a 20-year-old woman, and Section 39 assault by beating against another woman. She is due to enter her pleas on Thursday, September 22, and was bailed on curfew and condition not to contact the complainants in the case, nor to enter McDonald's in Runcorn, Asda Runcorn, Trident Park, or Shopping City.

Boy One, 14, is charged with inflicting Section 18 wounding with intent and Section 20 GBH without intent in connection with the primary complainant.

He is due to enter his pleas on Thursday, September 22, and was bailed on condition of curfew and not to contact directly or indirectly the complainants in the case.

The boy is also excluded from Shopping City unless for a pre-arranged solicitor appointment, McDonald's Runcorn, Asda Runcorn, or Trident Park.

Girl Two, 12, pleaded guilty to two counts of Section 39 assault by beating in connection with the primary complainant and another woman.

The girl received a nine-month youth referral order and must pay £100 in compensation and a £22 surcharge, to be deducted from a parent or guardian's benefits..

Boy Two, 14, pleaded guilty to Section 39 assault by beating versus a second complainant.

He received a nine-month youth referral order and must pay £100 in compensation, £60 in costs and a £22 surcharge.

The incident generated widespread shock and condemnation at the time including from Mike Amesbury, Labour MP for Weaver Vale, who raised it in the House of Commons, prompting the then-Home Secretary Priti Patel to brand the matter "appalling".

Detectives from Cheshire Police first announced they had made four arrests over the attack on May 19.
