Gang of 10 thugs 'kicked man unconscious' in 'unprovoked' street attack

A man walking home after the England match on Sunday night was reported to have been "kicked unconscious" in an unprovoked attack.

Police are investigating the attack, said to have happened around 11.15pm on Sunday (July 11) in Warrington.

Emergency services were called to London Road in Stockton Heath after reports of an "altercation" involving several people outside Costa Coffee.

A 22 year old man suffered serious facial injuries, and was taken to hospital where he currently remains.

Following reports of the attack, posts on Facebook by the man's mum said he was the victim of an "unprovoked assault" by a gang of around 10 teenagers aged 16 to 17 on bikes.

She said her son had been "kicked unconscious" and even when her son's friend tried to pull him away the gang followed him to carry on the attack, leaving him with "serious facial injuries".

The mum added that her son had to undergo an operation, and warned other parents it could be "your innocent child next" and that her son was "just in the wrong place at the wrong time".

The man's mum also thanked several people who had come to her son's aid following the attack, including an off duty nurse.

Cheshire Police are currently investigating and have appealed for information on the alleged assault.

A spokesperson for the force said: "At 11.15pm on Sunday 11 July police were called to London Road in Stockton Heath following reports of an assault.

"An altercation is believed to have occurred in the road involving a number of people and led to a man sustaining serious injuries to his face.

"He was taken to hospital where he remains in a serious but stable condition."

Anyone who has any information is asked to contact Cheshire Constabulary on 101 quoting IML 1035067.
