The news of Julme's death follows the discovery of two other suspected gang members who were killed and set on fire in a suburb of Port-au-Prince, indicating a possible act of vigilante justice. Jimmy Cherizier, also known as 'Barbecue,' leads the G9 Family and Allies gang coalition, which has emerged as one of the most dominant criminal groups in Haiti.
Reports from Pétion-Ville, a suburb of the capital city, revealed a series of violent attacks resulting in at least 15 fatalities. Witnesses described the gruesome scene of the suspected gang members being set ablaze, with one victim having their hands severed. Additionally, one of the individuals had their family residence burned down.
The United Nations Security Council issued a statement strongly condemning the violence perpetrated by armed gangs in Haiti. The council emphasized the urgent need for international support to enhance humanitarian aid delivery and bolster the capabilities of the Haitian National Police in restoring law and order.
The Security Council expressed deep concern over the illicit influx of weapons and ammunition into Haiti, which continues to fuel instability and violence in the region. Meanwhile, the U.S. State Department announced the successful evacuation of over 160 American citizens from Haiti in recent days.
