Gang flees after attacking staff at Kirkstall Morrisons

A gang attacked security staff at a Leeds Morrisons store then fled before police arrived.

Four men and a woman had been asked to leave by security guards at the Kirkstall supermarket due to previous offending.

A video circulating on social media shows the group shouting at security staff before the brawl begins in the entrance to the Savins Mill Way store.

West Yorkshire Police were called to the store after the violence, but the group had already fled the scene.

Officers searched the area but were unable to find them.

Police have recorded offences of racially-aggravated assault, assault and affray after the attack at 5.39pm on Tuesday.

A spokesperson for Morrisons said: “We do not tolerate any form of anti-social behaviour in our stores.”

Anyone who witnessed the attack or can help identify those involved is asked to contact the police.

A spokesperson for the force said: “At 5.29pm yesterday (12/1) police were called to the Morrisons store, in Savins Mill Way, Kirkstall, where a group had assaulted staff after being asked to leave due to previous offending.

“Officers attended but the suspects, four men and a woman, had left the scene. Officers conducted a search of the area but were unable to locate them.

“Three crimes have been recorded in relation to the incident - racially-aggravated assault, assault and affray.

“Anyone who witnessed the incident or who can assist in identifying those involved is asked to contact officers via 101 quoting crime reference 13210018882 or online via www.westyorkshire.police.uk/101livechat

“Information can also be given anonymously to the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.”
