Ten gangsters who admitted they "teased" Bangkok pedestrians with toy guns and machine gun sound effects, sending them fleeing in panic, have each been fined 10,000 baht by the Nonthaburi Provincial Court.
The penalty, imposed under Section 392 of the Criminal Code, was commuted to 5,000 baht because all the defendants, aged between 18 and 27 years, confessed to causing a public disturbance and frightening people.
The gang terrified people at several bus stops on Monday night, at the end of the long holiday weekend.
The court was told on Tuesday that the defendants called themselves "Grean the Gang," (Firebrand Gang)
On the night of July 27 they colluded to "tease" pedestrians at bus stops on roads in Nong Chok and Lad Krabang districts. People scattered in fear of their lives as the gangsters, wearing sunglasses and camouflage clothing, arrived on the back of a pickup truck, pointing plastic toy and silicone firearms at them and broadcasting automatic gunfire sound effects.
A video taken during the attacks was posted on social media, drawing scathing criticism.
The gang later surrendered to police.
