Gang armed with bats jump boy, 13, in St Helens park

A teenage boy suffered injuries to his face and head after he was attacked by a gang armed with bats in a Merseyside Park.

The 13-year-old boy was in Haresfinch Park, St Helens, when he was assaulted by a group of males - all believed to be teenagers.

The victim suffered a broken nose and bruising to his head and the gang have been described as "dressed in dark clothing" and having "their faces covered."

Merseyside Police today said they were continuing to appeal for witnesses to the "nasty" assault, which dates back to February 28, as enquiries remain ongoing.

In a statement today, Merseyside Police said: "The 13 year-old was in Haresfinch Park between 7.45pm and 8pm on Sunday, February 28, when he was assaulted by a group of males, who are believed to have been armed with bats.

"The teenager suffered a broken nose and bruising to his head.

"The males, who are all believed to be teenagers, were dressed in dark clothing and had their faces covered.

"It is believed a number of people were in the park at the time and may have witnessed the assault.

"Two teenagers have voluntarily attended for interview in relation to the incident and enquiries remain ongoing."

Detective Inspector Leanne Hobin said: "This was a nasty assault on a teenage boy which resulted in him suffering a facial injury.

"It is believed a number of people in the park at the time and I would appeal to anyone who witnessed this assault or has any information to contact us as they may be able to assist our investigation."
