Games Workshop posts £5.5m boost in profits as new warehouse work continues

Warhammer creator Games Workshop is set to post a multi-million pound increase in profits this year after the company acknowledged a boost in performance.

The fantasy miniatures firm, headquartered in Lenton , says pre-tax profit is set to come in at about £80 million for this financial year, up from £74.5 million in 2018.

The news comes after the company announced a strong half-year performance in January, with sales rising 14 percent in the six months to December 2 to £125.2 million. This was boosted by improved performance in its retail and trade divisions.

A spokesman for Games Workshop said of the full year expectations: "Following on from the group's half-year report in January, trading to April 7, 2019 has continued well.

"Compared to the same period in the prior year, sales and profits are ahead. Royalties receivable are also ahead of the prior year following the signing of new licence agreements."

In addition to the rise in profits, the company also reported it has raised its dividend to 155p per share for the year. Shares on the London Stock Exchange were up more than five percent at 3,495.1p in morning trade (April 12).

Pre-tax profits for the half year were reported at £40.8 million - seven percent higher than the previous year - with this continued increase being put down to the continued popularity of tabletop game Warhammer.

Games Workshop says the game is in "great shape".

After posting its half-year report, the company said its stock levels were "not currently where they would like them to be" as it moved ahead with investment projects including a new Nottingham factory and increased warehousing facilities.

In its management report at the time, the company said: "We are looking forward to our new Nottingham factory and ERP projects completing, allowing us to fully optimise our Nottingham site.

"From there, we'll begin to upgrade our warehousing capacity in both Memphis and Nottingham."

Nottingham City Council has already approved plans for new warehouse and production facilities and a four-storey office building at its base in Willow Lane. This includes demolishing poor-quality offices and the factory at the front of the site.
