Games organizers, govt officials to meet on March 3

The Tokyo Organizing Committee of the Olympic and Paralympic Games, the central and Tokyo metropolitan governments, the International Olympic Committee, and the International Paralympic Committee are finalizing arrangements to hold a meeting of top officials on March 3.

They are expected to discuss measures to combat the novel coronavirus pandemic and whether or not to allow spectators from overseas, according to a source close to the Games.

The government plans to make a decision on the handling of overseas visitors as soon as possible, based on the results of the five-party meeting.

At a press conference on Friday, Olympic minister Tamayo Marukawa said, deciding whether or not to welcome overseas visitors "will be very difficult."
