A games developer from North Wales has seen his brand FreeGames.org surpass a billion total plays on games they have developed or published.
Company founder Gareth Thomas, who lives in Betws-yn-Rhos, started to develop games while at university as a hobby.
It proved a huge success with him developing more than 100 web games – with titles like Red Remover and Super Stacker 2 attracting millions of plays.
The 38-year-old said: “I was studying Electronic Engineering at the University of Wales, Bangor at the time.
"I became interested in developing web games using flash in my spare time. I learned how to code using tutorials I found online.
“I found it really fun making games and sharing them on the internet. It was incredible to me how I could create something at home and if it was fun enough it could spread around the internet and reach a large audience.
"After a couple of my games went viral I was hooked and I’ve been making and publishing webgames ever since.”
Support for mobile devices has proven a smart move as the website has seen increasing demand for their web games by mobile phone users. Visits to FreeGames.org on smartphones has increased 900% in the last three years.
