"The Evil Within 2"
Platform: PS4, Xbox One, PC
Style: 1-Player Action
Publisher: Bethesda Softworks
Developer: Tango Gameworks
Release: October 13
ESRB: M
The bottom line: 7.75/10
Concept: Expand the scope of this horror series by moving outside the shadow of "Resident Evil."
Graphics: Character models look great and express well, even if the performances are a bit hammy. The larger environments have a great mix of distant vistas and intricate, detailed interiors
Sound: An orchestral score amplifies moments when it needs to, but the crunchy pop of a headshot or guttural noise of a nearby enemy are more distinctive and memorable
Playability: The control layout is quirky, but it works. Unless you're invested in upgrading your aim, simply firing and landing shots on enemies can be frustrating
Entertainment: "The Evil Within 2" offers some enjoyable scares, but it never transcends or deviates from the many works it draws from
Replay: Moderate
