Game Recap: Michigan State beats Indiana 40-31

Well, that was a stressful game. Michigan State struggled against Indiana and their quick passing game helmed by quarterback Michael Penix Jr. in what was ultimately a sloppy game from the Spartans, but they held on to knock off Indiana 40-31. Michigan State is now 4-1 on the season and 2-0 in the Big Ten.

This game was largely a showcase for Darrell Stewart Jr., who might be in the midst of establishing himself as the top receiver in the Big Ten. Stewart finished with 117 yards and two touchdowns on an incredibly efficient five receptions. Brian Lewerke also had a memorable game and also passed 6,000 passing yard and 1,000 rushing yards in his career during the contest.

Matt Coghlin’s unfortunate season also continued in this game, missing another field goal, this one from 43-yards out. However, he redeemed himself with the game-winning field goal with five seconds left (Michigan State added another touchdown as time expired on an Indiana fumble).

Michigan State will face their toughest challenge of the season Saturday against Ohio State, who just absolutely pulverized Nebraska last night.
